"With this
aerial view of New York City I want to share a view of the
city as it has never been seen. I want you to look down on your
world with the freedom of the ultimate observer, above yourself
and above everything else with infinite vision."
...Rafael Rivera
This picture of New York City was completed on September 13, 2007.
Here we see lower Manhattan in a very unique aerial perspective
showing the very tip of the island in a wide angle view (aprox 90
degrees,) that captures even New Jersey to the west and Brooklyn
to the east. This is a High resolution picture of New York City
created by piecing approximately 30 little pieces of photos using
a focal length of 60mm for each shot. The final resolution of the
NYC image is 17961x 10770px. It is a 533MB photoshop file and not
one of my BIGest pictures but certainly this New York City picture
is one of my best pictures. Click on the image above to see a reduced
1MB version of the New York City picture. The picture will open
in a separate browser window. There is also an animation in the
Video Clips section showing the process
from beginning to end.
To clear up some confusion and gossip that has already surrounded
this aerial picture of New York City, it is important to point out
that this is not done by using expensive equipment or gyro stabilization.
I try to be as resourcefull as possible and do this hand held using
my very dependable Canon 20D which is an 8 megapixel DSLR that I
bought for $1,500 when the camera first came out three years ago.
My images are on the cutting edge of technological resources but
does not use super sophisticated technology.
Here is a list of the equipment used:
-small helicopter (rented for 1hour)
-Canon
20D
-4Megabyte compact flash card
-a Dell Inspiron 9300 upgraded to 2GB of RAM
-Photoshop CS2
-and most importantly THE POWER OF A CREATIVE MIND!
-I Love New York City!
